Unlock your Mio satnav using a shell

For Mio satnav owners various unlocks have been released that allow using the navigator as well as performing other tasks. Minishell by hpcnr is one of those unlocks that can be found on specialized forums and it works on most Moov and Spirit series (known in other countries as Navman) Mio devices.

Why unlock Mio Spirit or Moov ?

With the aid of this unlock we can turn the Mio navigator into a mini computer where we can render video files, music or play games.

The interface is made up of multiple icons/windows: one where we can select various navigation softwares (that need to be installed), another that launches media files (music, movies) and the last one where we can set different parameters of the navigator such as luminosity.
The unlocked interface also allows running multiple navigation softwares like iGO Primo ,Sygic ,etc .

ATTENTION – This unlock can brick your device !!

BEFORE ALTERING, DELETING, COPYING IN/ON OR FROM THE NAVIGATOR FLASH, FIRST MAKE A BACKUP COPY OF THE DATA ON THE PC (perhaps after make another copy on a CD/DVD).

! RECOMMENDATIONS/ TIPS!
DURING THE TRANSFER OF DATA BETWEEN THE PC AND THE NAVIGATOR AND VICEVERSA, I RECOMMEND NOT PERFORMING ANY OTHER OPERATION (listen to music, surf the web, play games, etc.) A MINOR DISRUPTION IN THE TRANSFER OF DATA IS ENOUGH TO CREATE AN ISSUE.

This unlock was tested on genuine “MioMap” or “Spirit” software navigators.
The software was designed in a simpler version for navigators without TMC as well as the TMC version.

After download and unzipping/extraction you will have 5 directories /files /folders:

Flash
For MioMap
For SmartST_CE
For Spirit

Minishell

“Flash” includes 3 folders , you need to use only one folowing the next rules :

”For MioMap” has the necessary folders to unlock the Mio navigators that run on MioMap software (MioMap.exe)

“For SmartST_CE” has the necessary unlock files for Mio navigators with Navman/SmartST_CE navigating software (SmartST_CE.exe)Aspekte mittelstufe deutsch b2 pdf reader.

Preparation and Installation Minishell

First steps ( 1-3 ) depending on your Mio software

1. For devices with MioMap:

-You hook-up the navigator to the PC and you rename the original navigation software folder “MioMap.exe” for instance “2MioMap.exe”
(Program Files-> MioMap) .

– Copy all the files from the “For MioMap” folder/directory where you renamed the original .exe file: from “For MioMap” in Program Files -> MioMap

– Copy the “Minishell” folder in the in the navigator flash (drive) in ROOT (next towhere you have the Program Files folder)

2. For devices with Navman/SmartST_CE:

-You hook-up the navigator to the PC and you rename the original/source navigation software folder “SmartST_CE.exe” for instance “2SmartST_CE.exe”
(Program Files ->Navman->SmartST_CE) .

– Copy all the files from the “For SmartST_CE” to the Program Files/Navman/SmartST_CEdirectory where you renamed the original .exe file

– Copy the “Minishell” folder in the in the navigator flash (drive) in ROOT (next towhere you have the Program Files folder).

3. For devices with Spirit software

-You hook-up the navigator to the PC and you rename the original/source navigation software folder “Spirit.exe” for instance “2Spirit.exe”
(Program Files ->MioMap) .

– Copy all the files from the “For Spirit” to the Program Files/MioMapdirectory where you renamed the original .exe file

– Copy the “Minishell” folder in the in the navigator flash (drive) in ROOT (next towhere you have the Program Files folder).

Next steps for all devices ( Spirit,Navman,MioMap ) :

5. Turn the navigator’s button to RESET and eject from the PC

6. Wait approx. 5-10 seconds and then restart the navigator .

For the TMC version, after restart you will notice that the navigator restarts itself, which is normal as this is how the TMC settings load.
I recommend the TMC version only for Mio Moov S and Spirit models with this function !

Settings : choosing path and run other navigation software .

To set the navigation software you can use a utility program that allows changing the .exe file directly from the unlocked interface.

By choosing the utility program SETPATH, you can set which software is ran for each icon from the unlock.

Everything is done on the SETPATH page with the aid of a tiny wizard where your only choice is to pick the navigation software you want to run and assign a icon to it. The wizard will automatically recognize the executable file and you will only need to select that file in order for it to run.

A message alert will appear that asks you to wait 10 seconds, and then you can return to the navigation page and press the button of the correspondent software that you previously selected.

The multimedia software is already installed, set and 100% functional.
*Utility
The Utility software is already installed, set and 100% functional.

Hook-up to PC after you have installed Minishell

To connect to the PC after you have installed Minishell, to copy, delete or modify follow these steps:
-set the navigator button to RESET
-hook-up the navigator to the PC
-turn on the navigator (it will display the navigator’s connection to the PC)
-after it has been recognized by the PC you can make the changes you want
-after you have finished, leave it connected and press the navigator button to RESET
-wait for approximately 2 to 3 seconds then disconnect the USB cable
-leave the navigator button to RESET and wait for another 5 seconds then you can restart the navigator .

These steps have been tested on numerous occasions (while working with Minishell and various navigation kits) and never encountered any issues, so I recommend you follow these to the letter.

Have at least 300 Mb free space on the navigator flash!

Now we have a unlocked Mio navigator that will stand out, a mini car computer without investing money in other equipment.
