Speed awareness

Before booking your course. Before booking your course you must. Authorise NDORS to share your data with us; agree to the terms and conditions (PDF, 139.9 KB); For information about how we use and share your personal information for the purpose of booking a driver education course, read our privacy statement. Before attending the Speed Awareness course you must read the medical fitness advice. Speed Awareness courses and workshops have been running in the Sunderland area since around 2005, and since then, 95% of people who have been offered a place on the three hour interactive course have taken up the option, rather than getting points on their licence and paying a fixed penalty fine.

Hi all,
Quick question.
Got caught speeding on a variable limit on the M25 and been offered a Speed Awareness course by essex police.. Unfortunately, I accidentally threw the letter out when cleaning my car the other day and now I'm a tad confused.
- If I got the letter mid October, how long do I have to book the course? Is it 6 weeks?
- Is there a limit of when I have to attend it? Can I book a course date in December?
- Does it have to be in Essex? The Hertfordshire centre is closer to me, can I go there?
I appreciate these are silly questions but I was a numpty and lost the letter!
Any and all help is appreciated.

If I were you, I'd be on the phone to them ASAP. If you don't respond they'll give you the points and the fine.
And who better to ask the other questions than them?

The second one has a link if you want to take the course elsewhere than in Essex.
It would be ridiculous if you lived in Newcastle yet had to travel the whole length of England to attend.

CostDo you think so?
I got collared by a red light camera in Stockport about 7 years ago and had to drive to Manchester from Cambridge to attend the course.

Assuming all forces do the same thing, you have 28 days to respond to confirm you were the driver or to nominate someone else. You then have 28 days to either opt for the course or pay your fine (and get your 3 points).

Depends if they are part of the national course or not.

OP, you should have a choice. I got caught 3 years ago (83 on a dual carriageway, clear blue sky, light traffic etc etc...), down near Cirencester. I live near York so did SAC in Pontefract.
Saved me 3 points. Other than that, waste of time...

National Speed Awareness Course

I got collared by a red light camera in Stockport about 7 years ago and had to drive to Manchester from Cambridge to attend the course.CourseYes, I do. Having to incur the considerable additional costs involved in travelling more than half way across the country is real deterrent to re-education which is supposed to be the object of the exercise. Furthermore, your experience 7 years ago is unlikely to be applicable today which doesn't help the OP.
Depends if they are part of the national course or not.
To the best of my knowledge all forces/constabularies in E&W are signed up to NDORS for speeding offences, so a course can be offered* if the necessary criteria are met. If your belief is to the contrary, what is your basis for it? It is also my understanding that a list of National Course Providers should be given at the time of the SAC offer, so that the driver is aware of all the options up front, and that this is is one of the terms that the Police sign up to when joining the Scheme.
* This remains discretionary but if in the unlikely event of a constabulary/SCP consistently refusing to do so at all, I have no doubt that it would trigger a complaint to the relevant PCC.

does anyone know when the 3 years of speed awareness starts ticking.
Driver @ my work was caught around 15-20th october 2013 and took speed awareness probably in the Nov 13.
He has since gotten a ticket on the 18/10 and wonders if he can take speed awareness, I assume it runs from date of course not conviction?
