LinkedIn is a business- and employment-oriented social networking service that operates via websites and mobile apps. Founded on December 28, 2002, and launched on May 5, 2003, it is mainly used for professional networking, including employers posting jobs and job seekers posting their CVs. As of 2015, most of the. LinkedIn is a social network for professionals. It's like Facebook for your career. You might be surprised how useful this popular business social network is.

LinkedIn has spammers and scammers just like any networking platform does. You may find that you need to cut off communications with a LinkedIn user, or cut your connection with them -- or even block them.

When you block a LinkedIn user, they can't see your profile and you can't see theirs.  You can't message them, and they can't message you. Sometimes blocking an obnoxious LinkedIn user is the best way to go!

Here are ten good reasons to block someone on LinkedIn:

1. They spam your LinkedIn inbox with marketing messages.

2. They use LinkedIn as a dating site.

3. They reach out to your contacts without your knowledge or permission,  representing themselves as a close friend of yours.

4. They use rude or inappropriate language.

6. They add you to their newsletter subscriber list and spam you to death.

7. They try to sign you up as an affiliate partner of their website -- although you have no interest in the topic and have never suggested that you do.

8. They ask you to invest in their dubious project.

9. They want you to endorse them as an expert in some topic or other, although they know you have no knowledge of their work.

10. They creep you out, plain and simple.

If you know a LinkedIn user in the real world and they commit one of these offenses, you can talk to them about it.  If you don't know them and they take liberties with your association, that's a bad sign.  Some folks don't know how to use LinkedIn, and others don't care. Some LinkedIn users are not even real people.

Here's how to block someone who contacts you through your LinkedIn inbox:

1. Click on the message in your LinkedIn inbox.

2. Click on the line of three horizontal dots to the right of the sender's name, above the message.

3. Choose Report This Conversation to report the inappropriate/spammy/unwelcome message to LinkedIn.

4. Click on the link to Block the LinkedIn user, also.

It pays to be careful when adding new first-degree LinkedIn connections. Just because you meet someone at a networking event and they shove their business card in your hand doesn't mean you and they are meant to be fast friends.

In networking as in every other part of life, setting boundaries is a critical skill. When somebody is not your cup of tea in the networking department, don't hesitate to cut the cord!

You can Google Search a LinkedIn user's profile photo by right-clicking on it.
